facades

23rd april 2015

the façade of a structure needs to fulfil functional as well as aesthetic obligations. it is that part of the edifice, where an architect can express a school of thought, very directly. façade is the outward aspect of a building and many a times, it has been judged superficially as creators have exploited it for self-expression quite radically, where the “form” becomes synonymous with the façade hinting at the ignorance and neglect of the function altogether.

san francisco with its golden gate, paris with the peripherique as a motorway, london with its underground metro network and japan with its high speed trains show how urbanization becomes the identity of the modern day city. even emerging india gets its representation with the bandra worli sea link bridge in mumbai and the delhi gurgaon expressway lending a strong visual reference to our modern delhi.

interiors – the mettle in interior design and architecture

21st april 2015

interior design is more than meets the eye.

interior design vs. interior decoration is an age old topic of discussion and debate, and both the terms are most often used interchangeably. in india especially, interior designers seem to be mistaken for the people, who just provide the ‘look and feel’ to a project, but in reality, these professions differ and vary in critical ways.

“dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” — coco chanel

with a masters education in the field, often i have been questioned as to why one must study fashion and how frivolous does a career in fashion design appear in comparison with its counterparts in the community like architecture, industrial design etc.
